A Personal Reflection: Finding Eternity

Years ago, I felt overwhelmed by a sense of being “behind” in life—rushing to meet goals, haunted by past mistakes. During a meditation retreat, I tried a visualization to explore time differently. As I relaxed deeply, I imagined myself floating in a vast, starlit space where time didn’t exist. In this state, I saw my past struggles as fleeting moments, not defining truths. I also glimpsed a future where I felt fulfilled, teaching others about consciousness. The experience was like stepping into a calm, eternal now, where I felt whole and empowered.

This moment shifted my perspective. I began to approach life with less urgency and more trust, making choices that aligned with my vision. That timeless state wasn’t just a meditation—it was a catalyst for living more intentionally.

I have since begun to play with time, so to speak. An explanation of this is beyond this blog post, but on three separate occasions, I have rolled back my experience of personal time by up to an hour. From personal experience, I know that the power of the eternal now is infinite and incredible.

Ready to experience timelessness? This 20-minute meditation will guide you into an altered state to explore the eternal now. Find a quiet space and settle in.

Step 1: Create a Calm Environment

  • Choose a comfortable spot with minimal distractions. Dim the lights or light a candle for ambiance.
  • Keep a journal nearby to capture insights after the practice.
  • Set an intention, such as “I am open to experiencing timeless wisdom.”

Step 2: Enter an Altered State

  • Close your eyes and take 10 slow, deep breaths. Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for six.
  • Visualize a warm, golden light enveloping you, relaxing your body and mind. With each breath, sink deeper into calm.
  • If thoughts arise, let them drift like leaves on a stream, returning to your breath.

Step 3: Step Beyond Time

  • Imagine yourself floating in a vast, starry void where time has no hold. Feel the freedom of this boundless space.
  • Ask, “What wisdom does this eternal moment hold for me?” Let images, feelings, or ideas emerge naturally.
  • Explore a past moment that needs healing—see it with compassion, offering love to your younger self. Or, envision a future goal, feeling its reality as if it’s happening now.

Step 4: Anchor the Experience

  • Create a mental symbol of this timeless state, like a glowing orb or a radiant star. Hold it in your heart, affirming, “I carry this eternal wisdom with me.”
  • Imagine this symbol grounding your insights into your daily life.
  • Silently say, “I am connected to the eternal now, guiding my choices.”

Step 5: Return and Reflect

  • Gently wiggle your fingers and toes, take three deep breaths, and open your eyes.
  • Journal your experience: What images or feelings arose? Did you gain insights about your past or future? Note any shifts in perspective.
  • Practice this meditation weekly to deepen your connection to timelessness.
